Contouring: Kevin Aucoin Inspiration

Loved this post from @gulfbeauty, add definition and beauty to your face by contouring. A great book for further education and placement is Making Faces by Kevin Aucoin. I will be making a post on my blog tonight about tips and my favorite products to achieve this look!!www.kellimillerbeauty.blogspot.com #kevinaucoin#makingfaces #makeup #beautytips #beauty#kellimillerbeauty #cosmetics

Below is a picture depicting locations to put highlights and low lights.

Below is a picture from Kevin's book Face Forward. First off I feel like to really understand contouring you need to realize shading will cause receding and highlighting will bring forward. With that in mind learn your facial structure. Feel your bone structure and work from there. Different highlighting and contouring will cause different looks.

Contouring is a technique that helps the face recreate natural shadows. You can use one tone/shade of foundation with a bronzer and highlighter or you can use two shades of foundation. Two levels in color is appropriate for everyday use.
Our faces have natural areas that create light and dark shadows.  When we put on foundation (all one shade) we eliminate these shadows creating the “floating head” look.  This look is eliminated by adding the shadows back in with darker and lighter colors.  This is an essential step in creating a polished look, specially for special events such as weddings and other engagements.
When contouring choose a darker color that isn't highly reflective. This will cause light reflecting pigments to be where one would want depth.
Highlights on the other hand can be shiny because we want them to reflect light.   Looking at the picture you can see the dark places that should recede and the light places should come forward.  Below are pictures of beautifully contoured and blended out faces.  Keep in mind, the picture above is demonstrating an overly dramatic version of contouring.
Tyra with contouring makeup & without.

Below is a stage makeup effect of contouring and highlighting. You can see that when done properly it can make a dramatic youthful slimming effect or an aging fattening effect. You can manipulate contouring to elude different results that you want based on your desired look.

Look Younger With Makeup!

Look Younger With Makeup!

Try using a cream blush. Unfortunately, your skin starts to look kind of dull after 40, which means that your flat, lifeless powder blush isn't doing you any favors. "Cream blush adds a gorgeous sheen, especially to dry, mature skin, and it never settles into fine lines," says makeup artist Bobbi Brown. Apply on your apples and blend up toward your hairline to give your cheeks a youthful look. (Straight across the cheeks looks dated, Say Bobbi.)

Must Have Beauty Products for Brides

Must Have Beauty Products for Brides

I recently wrote a post for Saint George Weddings!! Check out the full article here!
Today we have a special treat for you!  Kelli Miller, from Kelli Miller Beauty, is going to teach us how to get gorgeous by sharing her very favorite “must have” beauty products!
Skincare.  Every bride wants clear, glowing skin on her wedding day.  Here are my top 2 must have products that will make that happen for you!
1.  Clarisonic
I use my Clarisonic twice a day. You can use it in the shower, which makes it very convenient!  The Clarisonic removes dirt, oil, and other impurities better than face wash alone.  Using this will help your skin glow on your wedding day.
2.  Purity Facial Cleanser by Philosophy
I love Purity facial cleanser for my face . . . and it is great for cleaning my makeup brushes, too!  The Purity cleanser dissolves dirt and makeup and deep cleans pores.  It smells fantastic, and is infused with sage, chamomile, and carrot.
Make Up.  On your wedding day, you want your make up to look fabulous and stay where it’s meant to stay.  These products will help you achieve a gorgeous, lasting look for big day!
3.  Bobbi Brown Gel Liner
Bobbi Brown Gel Liner is a must, and it comes in so many beautiful colors. This liner is great for people who have oily eyelids or have trouble keeping eyeliner on.  It lasts all day!
4.  Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color:
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color is a full lip stick, which means it has lots of pigment. It comes in beautiful colors, with an option perfect for every skin tone.
5.  Bobbi Brown BBU face palette
I have every foundation, corrector and concealer colors of the Bobbi Brown face palette. This product is a must for makeup artists. It gives me the confidence that I can give my clients their most important asset, beautiful skin.
6.  MAC Fix+
MAC Fix+ is great for setting makeup and for prepping skin.  This is definitely a must have for traveling, and keeping your skin looking great!  Plus, you won’t waste time touching up your make up on your wedding day . . . this will help your foundation stay on for hours!
Hair.  The last thing any bride wants on her wedding day is to have a bad hair day.  You want a look that has a lot of texture, and a lot of hold.  These products will help you have natural looking hair with staying power!
7.  Kenra Dry shampoo
This dry shampoo is great for updos, and for achieving more volume and workable hair.  I use this on my clients all the time–even if they don’t have dirty hair to start.  Dry shampoo gives the hair a lot of texture, and a lot of grip.  It will even help your hair curl better!
8.  Kenra Flexible hold hair spray
Kenra has won beauty awards for their hair spray for YEARS. I have used Kenra for years too it never lets me down!  This hairspray adds staying power without being sticky.  Your hair will be touchably soft, and natural looking–but, it will stay put!
So, next time you’re out shopping for beauty products, be sure to keep these in mind!  Believe me, you definitely won’t regret it.

Bobbi Brown Seasonal Training - Marc Reagan

I recently was sent to a makeup artistry training for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics where AMAZING makeup artist Marc Reagan was teaching. Marc is part of Bobbi Brown's elite makeup artist team. Marc works around the world doing fashion week, fashion shows, ad campaigns, celebrity events, editorial shoots and more. I was so blessed to be able to attend an eight hour training where Marc taught one on one with me and 5 other makeup artists.

Thank you Bobbi Brown!

Miss Nevada Alana Lee Gives recognition to (me!) Kelli Miller

Below is the following interview. The highlighted portion is where my good friend and client gives me recognition. Thank you Alana for sending me this article and link! Also, thank you for the recognition it is much appreciated!
Judith August, Founder Judith August Cosmetics, recently spent some time with Alana Lee, Miss Nevada 2011.  She asked Alana about her Miss Nevada experience and how she looks so good on and off the stage.

(segment from interview)

Judith:  Did you do your own make-up for the evening?

Alana: I did. I have a wonderful friend named Kelli Miller who has taught me everything I know about make-up. It’s priceless knowledge but the actual make-up comes with a price tag unfortunately! Thank goodness for sponsors who continue to help me afford these expenses.

Before & After Professional Hair & Makeup

Before
Karrah is a beautiful girl before & after. This goes to show the polish and finishing touches a professional touch can make.

After: up close & personal

If you noticed from the photos Karrah didn't grow part of her eyebrow past her arch. As you can see I was able to create the other missing part of her eyebrow without having her look as if she had drawn on eyebrows. We were both very happy with the end result.

Great colors to get for brow filling for fair skin such as Karrah are
